Boku no Hero Academia - Reviews

Boku no Hero Academia is a great upcoming shounen anime. Its rare now to see the main character starting from zero to a hero. And this is all what the anime is about. Young boy, Izuku Midoriya having a great interest to become a 'Hero' goes through various hardships and training to join U.A.~ The Hero Academia. This hero of ours lacking the uniqueness called as 'Quirks' has a dream to walk over the footsteps of the 'No. 1 Hero' All Might.

 Story~ 9/10
From Zero to a Hero. This anime is about Midoriya narrating his journey as he become the greatest of all Heroes. Most of the things is covered above. The pace would seem to be slow at first. Yet is well suited for the anime. I'm on episode 4 currently. So hoping the anime keeps the hype as it has kept the previous weeks :')

  Art~ 10/10
BONES !!! Isn't that enough to praise the art quality of the anime? It isn't? Ok.
The animators have put in their best to bring out a 'Comic Book' like effect in the anime. Bright colours, Flawless expressions (especially of All Might xD), Background detailings and everything!! Bones just nails everything about the art to the point.

  Sound ~ 10/10
Another great thing about the anime. OSTs are great!! Openings and Ending is well suited for the anime. Even the background music is well played at the scenes it is needed in.

  Character~ 9/10
Just waiting for upcoming episodes to give it a 10/10. Yet, from what I've seen till now, characters are great. Each one is unique. Izuku- the cry baby typish main who can jump off to rescue anyone in danger and turns to be his plus point . Kacchan- the air headed rival. Ochako- the simple and helping type of heroine. And many yet to come :')

  Enjoyment~ 10/10
Boku no Hero Academia is truely enjoyable anime. Each episode ends with a satisfying feeling. Makes you laugh, feel sad, happy in a span of an episode. This anime here is a bright future of the Shounen World.

  Overall~ 9/10
The anime is great for people starting to watch anime and even for those who have watched 100s of it. It would be ending at episode 13. Yet, looking at previous works of Bones, Season 2 will come soon xD

Thank You for reading :)

Mayoiga - Reviews

Review based on the first episode - seen up to episode four.

Mayoiga has set us off with a hint of mystery and eerieness from its first episode.

From the first few minutes, as the characters introduce themselves to us and each other. We are met with an eerie soundtrack that is woven to the backdrop of a passing storm.

Each character gives us a fake name and a small introduction. The character designs are very straight forward and simple, no outlandish hairstyles which make them feel more real.

Before we know it tension is already building between characters and the outlandish characters make themselves know by acting out in small ways. Hinting that some of them are a lot more on edge than we have been let on to believe.

As the episode goes on we learn more that there is more about this trip than we've been let on about and that visiting a sweet little town isn't the only reason why these people have gathered together. This just adds more mystery to the story as it still feels we are being left in the dark about... well about almost everything.

Overall I enjoyed this first episode. The creepy karaoke singing, to the foggy settings and the obscure characters we briefly meet, seems to all be setting up the foundation of the show ahead.

As we haven't been let on to know a lot about this show, I have no idea what we are to expect and what is to come, but I'm hoping we are going to have a fun coach trip and the mystery stays strong in this show.

Koutetsujou no Kabaneri - Review

The premise of the story is interesting, though it had many similarities with AoT. It's not unoriginal, but I think that these two shows would be compared for like forever. I was already gripped on episode one. I've read somewhere that if the first episode doesn't make u want to continue watching, then don't watch. (But of course there is always an exception) Ever since the first episode, there is plenty of action, suspense and some world-building. It's very fast-paced, and before u know it, the episode is over. Dang.

I think that the art is beautiful. And dark at the same time. It captures the mood of the situation perfectly, like terror and hope. The machinery and the scenery is very detailed. Even the kabane's glowing heart looks cool.

The OP and ED are fantastic, and the soundtrack fits with the events.

So far, the MC's past is not yet fully revealed, but he had a traumatic experience before. The characters aren't boring, and one particular character caught my eye; Mumei. She is a very cute girl who reeks of mystery, and she is super strong. I find most of the characters likable enough, for now.

I really enjoyed these two episodes, and that's why i hurriedly wrote this review. Overall, especially to those waiting for AoT season 2 and who generally loves action, good plot (and gore) should watch this :)

Since i'm a big fan of Attack on Titan, it's only natural that i'd love checking out a new series made by the same studio as AoT. Its like Attack on Titan X Zombies, and instead of huge walls the humans in this series seek refuge in an iron fortress.

Zankyou no Terror

I can’t begin to explain my feelings or thoughts towards this anime. I loved it without a doubt but I still have many unanswered questions lingering.

As many other reviewers stated, I assumed that the anime was going to be about terrorism in Japan, but it wasn’t. While it was a crucial element to the show, it wasn’t specifically focused on it. The act of terrorism highlights other issues, i.e. scientific experiments conducted on humans. As the names of the main characters suggest, they were test subjects in medical experiments.
The strongest elements on the show were the stunning artwork, music selection (all OST were excellent), and character/plot development.

The characters themselves were like a complex puzzle to solve. Both Nine and Twelve committed the acts of terrorism by placing bombs in public locations but what did they want to achieve from it? The puzzle might be harder to solve even after the ending. It’s something that can be discussed and argued over in order to gain better understanding on the characters. Without a doubt, Nine was my favorite character in the show. While he put on a cold demeanor, he also had a soft side to himself that was evident when it came to those close to him like Twelve. The duo were the heart of the show.

It’s shows like this that inspire me to continue watching anime because they contain so much substance. It allows you to think, question, and seek knowledge. How much do we know about the government we live in, how much is kept hidden from us, are medical experiments conducted secretly and how can we end patriarchy that continuously feed on the weak? I finished the show with a heavy heart not only because of the impact of the story but because the show portrayed a fragment of the reality we live in today.

Elfen Lied

Elfen Lied is something else. Just watching the first 10 minutes of the first episode and one can understand that this is not your typical anime. A series modeled, in many ways, after the tragedies of Shakespeare and Ancient Greece, Elfen Lied is not something that you want to enjoy a sunny day with. The seemingly grotuetist violence and nudity may put some people off of this series, but I have to say that the story would not have the same impact without it.

  • Story: 10
   - Elfen Lied boasts one of the most intense and intriguing plot lines that I have ever experienced in anime. It must be known that the central themes to Elfen Lied are hate, anger, and inhumanity. Every darkness of the human soul is represented in this 13 episode series.

  • Animation: 8
   - Not much to say here. The animation is very good, but nothing really stands out. I do really like the opening that shows a style adapted from the famous Austrian painter Gustav Klimt

  • Sound: 10
    - The music really sets the tone for the series. I love the opening song "Lilium" by Kumiko Noma.

  • Character: 9
    -  Elfen Lied has the best in depth characters i've seen since Neon Genesis Evangelion. The characters are real, with both light and darkness in their souls. Unlike most anime, the distinction between good and evil is not so clear. Can Lucy/Nyu be considered a good character when she has the capacity to harm so many?

  • Enjoyment: 10
     - This rating is the most subjective of all. I enjoyed the series, especially because I enjoy both dark and lighter anime series.

  • Overall: 10
       - You just can't find many anime series that took the risk that Elfen Lied did. Sure you can watch Tenchi, Love Hina, or even Ranma 1/2 and get the same decently good anime over and over again. Elfen Lied, is something that just doesn't come around that often.

One Piece is a freak show

One Piece is a freak show. With over 750 episodes aired so far, it's not going to be ending anytime soon.

So One Piece is a battle shounen anime, which follows the adventures of one Monkey D. Luffy, who aspires to be the King of the Pirates. He is the captain of the Strawhat Pirates, a crew consisting of both males and females, who all play an important role that helps keep the crew going.

Luffy is our typical, dumb shounen hero, who is a glutton, grins a lot, and is happy-go-lucky. The rest of the Strawhat Pirates all have unique personalities, and you're likely to find a favourite among them. Although, some of them can be annoying sometimes.

The art style is something you'll either love or hate. It can be either appealing or unappealing to look at. In my case, I don't have a problem with it, and that there are worse-looking anime than One Piece. It's quite cartoony, and has a distinguishing look to it. The designs of the Strawhat Pirates look fine. But it has some of the ugliest-looking supporting characters you will find in an anime.

The animation is ass. Produced by the infamous Toei Animation, the animation is average and just looks outdated compared to other long-running anime that aired (or is airing) around the same time. It's just disappointing and I know it could look better if another studio had did it, or if Toei put more budget into it like in the films. Along with this, the fights (which are mindless) just look unimpressive and are unexciting compared to the fights in other battle shounen anime (like Naruto and Bleach), and it also uses a lot of stills. Barely any of the fights are memorable, nor have much rewatch value, and the choreography for the fights are just lame. This isn't a show you want to watch for the fights.

The music is a mixed bag. It's upbeat most of the times, which goes well with the theme of the show. The first opening sounds amazing, and made me revisit the show frequently early on, but other openings are just painful to listen to. The main characters have their own theme music, which I always liked the idea of in anime in general, and they fit with the characters. The voice acting in both the sub and dub are great. I personally prefer the dub.

The pacing is fine from episodes 2 to 301 (episode 1 was slow-paced), but it becomes indefinitely slow-paced from episode 302 onwards. And the filler episodes are surprisingly decent, for the most part. Though, in latter episodes, there are almost no filler episodes to speak of, which results in snail-pacing for the canon episodes.

There are some things that annoyed me about this show. There is a lot of crying in it, from both main and supporting characters. Not only that, but they make these ugly, exaggerated expressions on their faces when they cry. It's probably a staple of the show, but it feels like they went way overboard with the tears, and it gets irritating the more you watch it and hear them wailing. Another thing is the lack of deaths. Basically, for the most part, nobody dies in this show (outside of flashbacks). Like nobody. This gets noticeable the more you watch it, and it kind of ruins the suspense. Like I wasn't expecting any characters to die within the first 100 episodes or anything, but just damn, it takes a long-ass time for the first actual death to take place in the show (we're talking about hundreds of episodes). What also irks me are the moments where the show makes it look like somebody has died, but later on you find out that they didn't. I also don't like the humour; it's just childish and involves slapstick and retorting. In other words, it's mostly unfunny, at least to me. There are some jokes here and there that made me crack a smile, but that's it. And I just don't like the general tone of the series. You often see these minor, nameless characters (usually from the Marines) shout whatever is going on in front of them in a silly way in serious moments, and it's pretty annoying.

Overall, the main characters are the strongest aspect of the anime, and is the biggest reason why I try to continue to watch the anime. I admit it's fun to see the Strawhat crew's adventures. It's a pretty silly show, not taking itself seriously at all. However, the abundance of melodrama might be a turn-off for some people. The arcs are also formulaic for the most part, so it gets repetitive too. If you have a lot of time on your hands, and like adventure, then consider checking this show out. If you're looking for a battle shounen with spectacular fights, then I suggest you look elsewhere. The fights in One Piece are crap. I myself grew tired of watching this show from the beginning of the Summit War saga, and there's little reason to continue watching this show after the timeskip.
